Moscow, Baku discussing establishing Russian consulates, deputy foreign minister
Moscow and Baku are actively discussing the establishment of Russian general consulates in Azerbaijan, with Russia expressing optimism about the prospects for success in this initiative, Report says.
During the "Russia-Azerbaijan" session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin remarked, "The progressive development of our relations, including the search for new opportunities for the development of trade and economic cooperation, would be met by the establishment of our consulates general in Azerbaijan. We are now having this conversation with Azerbaijani friends and hope that it will also succeed."
Galuzin highlighted the excellent state of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, describing them as "relations of allied cooperation and strategic partnership," in line with the declaration signed in February 2022.
He also underscored the importance of the Russian language in Azerbaijan. "Yesterday, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said that he feels the support of the Azerbaijani president in matters of studying the Russian language because it is important for the development of bilateral relations. This is also an important part of our joint work. We are doing it together, finding new opportunities and discussing these issues very actively,” Galuzin emphasized.
