Azerbaijan and Peru held high-level political consultations in Lima on September 3-4 aimed at strengthening bilateral relations across multiple fields.
The discussions, led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov and Peru’s Deputy Minister Felix Denegri Boza, covered prospects for cooperation in political, economic, energy, cultural, and tourism sectors. Both sides emphasised the importance of establishing a legal and contractual framework to support ongoing and future collaboration, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Presentations highlighted existing trade and economic opportunities in Azerbaijan and Peru, with mutual commitment expressed to promote joint initiatives.
During the visit, Mammadov also engaged in meetings with key Peruvian officials. He met José Enrique Jerí, President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru and Head of the Peru-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, where they discussed enhancing inter-parliamentary collaboration and cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms.
Additionally, a meeting with Peru’s Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer Salcedo underscored Peru’s interest in strengthening ties and the expectation that the consultations would serve as a catalyst for expanded cooperation.
In parallel with the diplomatic engagements, Deputy Minister Mammadov granted interviews to prominent Peruvian media, including La Razon and the official state outlets El Peruano and Andina news agency. He also delivered a lecture at the National University of San Marcos, where he presented Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities and engaged with the academic audience.
