Azerbaijan, Peru hold first round of political consultations in Lima
Azerbaijan and Peru held the first round of political consultations between their foreign ministries in Lima.
The consultations took place during the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The Peruvian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Félix Denegri.
“The meeting marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation and strategic dialogue in the 29 years of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Peru,” the foreign ministry noted.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Denegri emphasised the mutual interest in strengthening ties and noted that this mechanism would allow the promotion of joint projects in areas such as tourism, security, culture, and sports. He added that the development of cooperation could have a significant impact on the well-being of both peoples.
In turn, Elnur Mammadov highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with regional organisations such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the Pacific Alliance, of which Azerbaijan has been a member since 2019.
The parties noted the potential for attracting mutual investments. It was emphasised that both countries serve as important geoeconomic links, with Peru playing a strategic role in the Asia-Pacific region and Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus.
The ministry also highlighted that Azerbaijan and Peru are two countries with rich, millennia-old cultural heritages. In this context, the sides agreed to strengthen technical cooperation in this field and to exchange expertise to protect their heritage.
