Azerbaijani ombudsman monitors situation of detained Russian citizens
The Azerbaijani Ombudsman’s Office has confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation of Russian citizens currently detained in Azerbaijan, following an official information request submitted by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The Ombudsman’s press service stated that the issue remains under the direct oversight of the National Preventive Group—an independent mechanism tasked with ensuring the rights and humane treatment of individuals in detention, Caliber.Az reports.
The Office emphasized that relatives of the detained individuals have been received by representatives of the Ombudsman’s institution. According to the statement, all submitted appeals are being reviewed promptly and in full compliance with Azerbaijani law. Where necessary, appropriate legal and humanitarian assistance is being provided.
