Nationwide anti-Trump protests planned across US for Labor Day
A wave of anti-Trump protests is expected to sweep across the United States on Labor Day, with demonstrators rallying under the banner of “Workers Over Billionaires” to push back against what they describe as a “billionaire takeover” of American democracy.
Organized by the activist network May Day Strong, the Labor Day actions mark a continuation of a broader movement launched earlier this year to resist the Trump Administration’s policies and advocate for workers' rights, Time reports.
“We have to stop the billionaire takeover—not just through the ballot box or the courts, but through building a bigger and stronger movement,” the group stated.
According to organizers, at least 765 events are scheduled across all 50 states—and even in the US territory of Guam—making this one of the largest coordinated protest efforts of 2025.
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) has also thrown its support behind the actions, saying, “Workers' Labor Day is a celebration of working people. And it’s a celebration of the power we have when we come together in a union—the power to take back our country for working people, not billionaires.”
The protests are expected to target various issues including corporate influence in politics, public school funding, healthcare, climate justice, and voter suppression. In New Jersey, demonstrators will be “fighting for public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, shared prosperity over corporate politics,” according to the Working Families Party.
Local chapters of Women’s March are also mobilizing under the campaign “Solidarity September,” which launches on Labor Day and continues with a “Make Billionaires Pay” protest day on September 20. “Shut down billionaires. Fund our future. Shut down fascists. Protect migrants and the global majority. Shut down polluters. Defend Mother Earth,” read a statement from the organizers.
Several protests are taking place under the banner of “Fight the Trump Takeover.” In Gloucester, Massachusetts, a local event page urges citizens to “Join us on Labor Day to protest the voter suppression and gerrymandering designed to limit the power of your vote and your voice.”
Despite past warnings from President Donald Trump—who said protesters would be “met with big force”—activists remain undeterred in their calls for mass mobilization.
