NATO assess possibility of using nuclear weapons
NATO countries assess the possibility of the alliance members using nuclear weapons as "extremely unlikely".
"The circumstances under which NATO may have to use nuclear weapons are extremely unlikely," the alliance said in a communiqué during the summit, held in the Lithuanian city of Vilnius, Gazeta.ru reports.
The NATO countries also called Russian Federation the most serious and direct threat to security in the Euro-Atlantic region.
In addition, it became known that NATO countries will invite Ukraine to join the alliance when its allies in the North Atlantic bloc agree to this and "conditions will be met" by Kyiv. According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, it was decided at the summit that the alliance would abolish the action plan for Ukraine's membership.
