Netanyahu proposes to create NATO-like alliance in Middle East
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for the establishment of a new security alliance in the Middle East, similar to the post-World War II alliances in Europe, to counter the rising Iranian threat.
In his address to the US Congress, Netanyahu proposed the formation of the "Abraham Alliance," named after the Abraham Accords, which saw the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab nations in 2020-21, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Netanyahu suggested that this new alliance would be open to all countries maintaining peaceful relations with Israel, aiming to bolster regional stability and security. The initiative seeks to mirror the strategic partnerships the United States established in Europe during the Cold War to counter the Soviet Union.
The Israeli leader's visit to the United States includes meetings with key political figures. He is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden and address Congress. Additionally, Netanyahu plans to meet with US presidential candidate Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is considered a likely Democratic candidate for the presidency.
