New Hungarian government formation date set for May 9
Hungary’s future Prime Minister Péter Magyar has held consultations with representatives of parties that entered parliament and agreed on the date for the inaugural session of the National Assembly and the approval of the new government, HVG reports.
Representatives of Tisza, Fidesz, the Christian Democratic People’s Party, and Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland) took part in the meeting. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was absent and was represented instead by his chief of staff, Gergely Gulyás.
The parties agreed that the first session of parliament will take place on May 9, with the election of the new prime minister also scheduled for the same day. Under Hungary’s constitution, the first parliamentary session is convened by the president.
An agreement was also reached to expand opposition representation, with each party set to receive one deputy speaker position in parliament.
