NYP: JD Vance US delegation to land in Islamabad within hours
U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran’s claims that it will not take part in a new round of peace negotiations in Pakistan, signaling confidence that talks will proceed and expressing openness to high-level engagement if progress is made.
In remarks to The New York Post, Trump brushed aside concerns that the negotiations could collapse, stating: “We’re supposed to have the talks,” and adding, “So I would assume at this point nobody’s playing games.”
The comments come amid uncertainty over Iran’s participation, after Tehran indicated no final decision had been made on attending the discussions.
Trump also confirmed that a senior U.S. delegation is already en route to Islamabad to prepare for the meetings. The delegation includes Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner.
“They’re heading over now,” Trump said. “They’ll be there tonight, [Islamabad] time.”
Trump added that he would be willing to meet senior Iranian leaders if negotiations produce a breakthrough.
