Official: China's military maneuvers disproportionate to US Speaker's 'peace visit' to Taiwan
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that China's military maneuvers were disproportionate to the "peaceful visit" of US Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
“There is a disproportion between a peaceful visit on the one hand and military maneuvers leading to an escalation on the other hand,” Rappler reports referring to Blinken’s statement made at a press conference in the Philippines.
He noted that Taiwan's differences with China should be resolved peacefully.
Relations between China and the US have become more complicated after it became known about Pelosi’s alleged visit to Taiwan.
Pelosi arrived in Taipei despite Beijing’s protests, which caused an extremely negative reaction.
In response to the corresponding move by the US diplomat, China launched large-scale military exercises around Taiwan and partially restricted the export and import of certain goods to the island.
