Pakistan says JD Vance played central role in US–Iran talks
US Vice President JD Vance has played a key role in facilitating talks between Washington and Tehran, according to a senior Pakistani source, as negotiations aimed at reducing tensions are set to begin in Islamabad.
“A senior Pakistani source has praised JD Vance’s role in pushing the US and Iran towards a diplomatic solution to the war, telling CNN that the US vice president has been key in bringing about the talks set to get underway in Islamabad in the coming hours.”
The source, who is familiar with the process, said it would likely take several days of negotiations to secure a ceasefire agreement. They added that Pakistani officials were hoping Vance would remain in the country longer to help advance the discussions.
Separately, a senior Gulf source told CNN that Iranian officials have limited trust in US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, who has previously led rounds of negotiations with Tehran that were interrupted by US strikes on Iran.
