Pakistani minister says no concrete housing solutions for low-income groups
Housing is not only a matter of shelter but also of poverty, safety, and social equality, Pakistan’s Minister for Climate Change Coordination and Environmental Protection Musadik Malik said, adding that current efforts still lack concrete housing solutions for low-income groups.
Speaking at the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, he noted that climate change and natural disasters are further worsening the housing crisis for millions of people worldwide, according to local media.
“In particular, access for low-income families to safe and resilient housing must be one of the core topics of discussion. We talk about housing solutions, but for whom are these solutions? I do not see concrete solutions for low-income people.
Currently, 2.8 billion people in the world live in inadequate housing conditions, and around 300 million people face chronic homelessness. Although the majority of global emissions come from a small number of countries, those most affected by climate disasters have a very small share of emissions,” he said.
