Pakistani tanker makes rare passage through Strait of Hormuz
A tanker carrying non-Iranian crude oil has successfully transited the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, vessel-tracking data revealed, marking a rare passage through the waterway amid ongoing regional tensions.
The Pakistani-controlled tanker Karachi, which transports crude oil from Abu Dhabi, passed through the strait on March 15, according to information provided by the maritime tracking service MarineTraffic, AP reports.
Data from the tracking platform shows that the vessel has since continued its voyage and is currently sailing in the Gulf of Oman.
The development comes as maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important oil transit routes — has been significantly disrupted by escalating tensions and security risks in the region. The narrow passage connects the Persian Gulf to international shipping lanes and is a critical route for global energy supplies.
