Palestinian leader wants Hamas to join Palestine Liberation Organisation
The representatives of the agencies belonging to the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) have met at the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian leader, PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah and discussed the possibility of adding Hamas to their ranks.
The PLO reportedly has four conditions for accepting Hamas and only after the terrorist organization agrees with these conditions, the PLO will be able to discuss its entry into its ranks, according to Al Arabiya.
The first condition is to determine a clear position regarding an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem within the 1967 borders.
The second condition is to emphasize that any form of struggle is the “natural right” of the Palestinian people, but at this stage, “the appropriate form is popular resistance” and to agree that the PLO path is appropriate.
The third condition is the commitment to the PLO as the legitimate and exclusive representative of the Palestinians, as well as compliance with the organization's various obligations, including peace agreements signed with Israel in the past.
The fourth condition is the commitment to legitimacy and respect for international law as the basis for conflict settlement.
According to reports, the PLO also created a delegation led by Hussein al-Sheikh to travel to Egypt and discuss “a joint Arab position regarding the next phase” “especially due to the decision of the UN Security Council to explore the political horizon after the end of the war”.
“All issues on this matter will be discussed with the Egyptian side in the coming days through the official PLO delegation, which will arrive in Cairo,” the statement said.
According to the statement, “a PLO source confirmed the Palestinian leadership’s refusal to create a technocratic government” in the Gaza Strip.
