Paris confirms EU emergency summit to address Ukraine conflict
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed that Paris will host an EU emergency summit on February 17, marking an important discussion on European security matters.
Barrot revealed that the summit would be a working meeting, with President Emmanuel Macron inviting heads of state and government to convene in the French capital, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He emphasized that such gatherings are a regular part of diplomatic efforts, and there is no cause for alarm regarding the meeting.
While the specific participants were not disclosed, Barrot did not rule out the involvement of key European leaders. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski had previously mentioned Macron's invitation to European leaders, signaling discussions on the ongoing Ukraine conflict and broader European security concerns.
On February 15, Foreign Minister Sikorski announced at the Munich Security Conference that French President Emmanuel Macron had called for the summit, though France has not yet confirmed the event.
The emergency gathering follows recent developments that have upended the previously united Western approach.
Barrot's comments follow reports by AFP, which have highlighted the significance of the summit in light of the current geopolitical climate.
