Parliament speaker: US VP's visit to Azerbaijan marks historic milestone
The visit of U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance to Azerbaijan marks a historic milestone and opens a new phase of bilateral cooperation, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament, Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova said during a plenary session of parliament.
Gafarova stated that visits at such a high level create a strong foundation for expanding U.S.–Azerbaijani cooperation across multiple sectors. She noted that the charter signed between the two countries reflects a broad and comprehensive partnership framework, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Addressing ongoing regional developments, the speaker said Azerbaijan continues to be guided by the principle of partnership in its foreign policy. She added that Baku highly values the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in efforts to promote peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. According to Gafarova, enhanced cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States serves the broader interests of regional stability.
U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance visited Azerbaijan on February 10. Following talks with President Ilham Aliyev, the two sides signed the Charter on Strategic Partnership, a document formalising the strategic nature of U.S.–Azerbaijan relations.
During the visit, the United States also announced the delivery of American patrol boats to Azerbaijan to strengthen the protection of its territorial waters.
