Patriot production in Ukraine faces lengthy launch timeline
Production of Patriot air defence systems in Ukraine, even on a pilot basis, is unlikely to begin for at least 12 to 24 months, according to military publication Military Watch Magazine (MWM).
The report notes that Patriot systems rely on complex radar seekers, electronic components, rocket motors, and advanced software, the production of which depends on closely integrated international supply chains.
Many of these components require specialised manufacturing facilities that are not currently available in Ukraine. In addition, access to certain technologies would require separate export approvals that go beyond a general production license, the publication said.
Defence experts cited by MWM believe that even a pilot production program could take several years to establish, while achieving meaningful production volumes would require significantly more time.
Analysts also highlighted security concerns, noting that any production facilities established in Ukraine could become high-priority strategic targets, a factor that may discourage US defence contractors from participating in such projects.
At the recent NATO summit in Ankara, US President Donald Trump said that Washington would grant Kyiv a license to manufacture Patriot air defence systems.
