Pezeshkian sets conditions for resuming talks with United States
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has outlined conditions for resuming talks with the United States, linking progress to a shift away from Washington’s pressure tactics, according to foreign media.
In a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country is involved in mediation efforts between the sides, Pezeshkian stressed: “The contradiction has increased the level of mistrust [in Washington] among the Iranian people and officials of the Islamic Republic.”
The president said that the continuation of hostile measures, including what he described as a maritime blockade, is incompatible with declared US intentions to achieve a political settlement.
“As long as the United States’ hostile actions and operational pressures do not cease, rebuilding trust and making progress on the path of dialogue will face serious difficulty,” Pezeshkian noted.
He added that the Islamic Republic will not enter into imposed negotiations under pressure or blockade conditions.
