PM: EU fully supports Denmark on territorial integrity, borders
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said that the EU member states stand united in their support for Denmark’s territorial integrity and borders.
Frederiksen made these remarks following talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"The clear message from friends in the Nordic countries and Europe, and also outside Europe, is that there must of course be respect for territories and the sovereignty of states. This is crucial for the international community we have built together since the Second World War," Frederiksen said.
This statement comes after US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, should be a part of the US.
On January 27, the information went viral that Denmark plans to spend $2.05 billion to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic, following US President Donald Trump's interest in gaining control over Greenland.
During a phone talk with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on January 25, Trump insisted on purchasing Greenland. Reports indicated that Trump was aggressive and confrontational in his approach.
