Poland eyes major expansion of US weapons purchases
Poland plans to spend at least $150 billion on the acquisition of US weapons and military equipment in the coming years, Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk said, underlining Warsaw's commitment to strengthening defence ties with the United States.
Speaking in an interview with RMF FM radio, Tomczyk said Poland has already invested heavily in American defence systems and infrastructure.
"To date, Poland has spent around $65 billion on the purchase of American military equipment and the establishment of various service facilities. In the coming years, we plan to spend approximately $150 billion," Tomczyk said.
The United States remains Poland's principal defence partner. As part of its military modernization program, Warsaw has procured a broad range of US-made equipment, including F-35 fighter jets, AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, Patriot air defence systems, and M1 Abrams tanks.
