Poland eyes role in EU-funded arms supplies to Ukraine
Poland expects its defence industry to take part in upcoming arms procurement for Ukraine under a €90 billion European Union loan package.
Speaking ahead of the EU Security Council meeting on May 12 in Brussels, Polish State Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Paweł Zalewski said that products from Polish defence companies would be included in the procurement list for Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Zalewski noted that the funding forms part of a previously unblocked European loan for Ukraine, intended to support state financing and large-scale defence efforts.
“Part of these funds will be allocated to the purchase of weapons, and we are pleased that Polish defence companies will also be able to benefit from this mechanism,” Zalewski said.
He did not specify which categories of weapons could be supplied by Polish manufacturers, citing the confidential nature of the information.
“We know that Polish companies have capabilities that are in demand by Ukraine,” he added.
Zalewski also said that Poland is expecting the release of funds under the European Peace Facility, which remains blocked due to Hungary’s position.
