Poland to build nuclear power plant To boost zero-emission energy
Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domański has said that Poland plans to invest 4.6 billion zlotys (approximately $1.19 billion) in the construction of its own nuclear power plant in 2025.
"Next year, we will allocate 4.6 billion zlotys for the construction of a nuclear power plant. We are also working on solutions related to renewable energy sources," he stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Domański noted that energy prices in Poland are 40-50 per cent higher than in Germany, France, and Spain, posing a significant challenge for Polish industry. In November 2022, the Polish government approved a decree for the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant.
The plan includes launching three reactors on the Baltic Sea coast in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, with the construction estimated to cost around $20 billion. The information went viral in September 2023 that US Westinghouse and Bechtel companies will lead the construction of the nuclear plant, in collaboration with Polish subcontractors.
Polish authorities aim to build six nuclear power units over the next 20 years. Starting from 2033, they plan to commission power units with capacities of 1-1.6 GW every two to three years, aiming to generate 6 to 9 GW of zero-emission electricity.
