Polish foreign minister declares Baltic region NATO stronghold
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has declared that the Baltic Sea has effectively become “NATO’s internal sea,” following the accession of Finland and Sweden to the alliance.
His remarks were made during a conference focused on security in the Baltic region and were reported on the official website of the Polish government, Caliber.Az reports.
“As has become clear in recent years, with Finland and Sweden joining NATO, the Baltic Sea has practically become an internal sea of the Alliance,” Sikorski stated, underscoring the strategic significance of the region for the alliance.
The minister also highlighted ongoing Russian activity in the area, describing it as “bad news” and labeling Moscow’s actions as “hostile toward Europe and the West as a whole.” He warned that such developments necessitate heightened vigilance and stronger coordination among NATO member states.
Sikorski emphasized that ensuring security and stability in the Baltic region requires continuous monitoring and concerted efforts by the alliance, reflecting the growing geopolitical importance of the area amid rising tensions with Russia.
