Politico: Split emerges within Trump team over Iran memorandum
There is no unified position within Donald Trump’s administration on a memorandum of understanding with Iran, with only a limited group — including JD Vance, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff — viewed as supportive of the deal, Politico reports, citing a source.
The source said most of the administration’s leadership does not consider the agreement beneficial for Washington, describing the potential deal as “horrible.”
The source called it a de facto “capitulation” by the United States, and labelled the idea of lifting sanctions and unfreezing Iranian assets as “insane.”
“The Iranians won’t give us anything on nuclear or anything else in these next 60 days. They know once the strait is open we will have zero credible threat of force or will to do it. And the money and sanctions stuff is crazy,” the source noted.
