Putin accuses US of manipulating public fear over mythical Russian threat
Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken out about the actions of the US regarding Russia, highlighting what he sees as a strategy of escalating tensions and manipulating domestic fear with fabricated threats.
Putin explained during a meeting at the Russian Defence Ministry that the US approach involves pushing Russia to the brink and then using the myth of a Russian threat to scare their own population, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Under the pretext of a mythical Russian threat, the US frightens its population, claiming that we are about to attack someone. The tactic is simple: they push us to the red line, beyond which we cannot retreat. Once we begin to respond, they immediately escalate the fear, first with the Soviet threat, and now with the Russian threat," he said.
President Putin reminded that Washington once used similar tactics by raising the specter of a Soviet threat.
He pointed out that, in the present day, the US is actively working to weaken Russia and deliver a strategic defeat.
He emphasised that US authorities continue pumping weapons and funds into the illegitimate Kyiv regime, while also sending mercenaries and military advisors to Ukraine, thereby encouraging the escalation of the conflict.
