Romania flying last of Russian MIGs, to buy American fighter jets
31 May 2022 10:43
Romania's defence ministry has said that it will continue flying its remaining MiG-21 Lancer fighter jets until May 2023.
Romania, a NATO member country, is speeding up a planned purchase of second-hand F-16s from Norway, as its defence ministry decided to replace the MIGs due to their high accident rate, scandinaviannews.com reports.
Romania has some F-16 fighter jets acquired from Portugal and is currently buying an additional 32 F-16 jets from Norway, giving it an additional two air squadrons.
