Russia denies role in German drone incidents Jokes Berlin will wrap up investigations “next century”
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, has dismissed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s suggestion that Russia may be behind recent drone incidents over Germany.
Speaking to the press, Zakharova took a sarcastic tone, implying that Berlin’s investigations would take an exceptionally long time, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Germany has still not figured out the ‘flows’—the Nord Stream pipeline explosions. They still do not know who carried them out. As for the drones, they will probably get around to it in the next century,” she said.
Earlier, Merz had stated his belief that many of the drones spotted over Germany were linked to Russia, although no concrete evidence has been publicly presented.
Earlier, Chancellor Merz stated that Russia is likely behind many of the drones spotted over Germany.
“We assume that Russia is behind most of these drone flights,” Deutsche Welle quotes Merz as saying.
Merz described the number of intrusions into other European countries as unprecedented—even compared to the Cold War period. He added that the only consolation was that none of the drones observed so far were armed and that they appeared to be conducting reconnaissance flights.
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder suggested that Russia could be behind the recent drone incidents at Munich Airport. While noting that he could not confirm the claim with certainty, Söder said he believes the appearance of drones near the airport “is somehow connected to Russia."
Munich Airport temporarily suspended operations on the nights of October 3 and 4 after unidentified drones were spotted over the airfield, leading to the cancellation of dozens of scheduled flights.
