Russia strikes Kharkiv, Kyiv: Two civilians killed, 14 wounded

20 January 2026 11:12

Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine's Kharkiv and six settlements in the Kharkiv region were hit by Russian attacks, the region's governor Oleh Syniehubov has said.

As a result of the shelling, a 69-year-old woman was killed and 13 others were wounded, he wrote on Telegram, Caliber.Az reports.

He added that the injured include men and women aged between 36 and 79, including one person in the village of Oskol.

Syniehubov noted Russian forces used a variety of weapons, including four missiles, two guided aerial bombs (KAB), three FPV drones, two Geran-2 drones, four Molniya UAVs, and three additional drones of unknown type. Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed.

During the day, 165 combat engagements were recorded. On the South-Slobozhansky direction, Russian forces launched 11 assaults on Ukrainian positions, and on the Kupiansk direction they carried out three attacks. According to Synehubov, all assaults were repelled by Ukrainian defence forces.

In a separate attack last night, Russia subjected the Kyiv region to a massive strike, the region's governor Mykola Kalashnyk said on Telegram.

In Bucha district, a 50-year-old man received a fatal wound—medical personnel fought to save him, but he could not be saved. He died at the scene.

The attack also damaged the buildings of two petrol stations.

Kalasnyk emphasised that the “aggressor country is deliberately targeting peaceful civilians and civilian infrastructure, continuing to terrorise Ukrainian cities and villages.”
