Russian ambassador: European leaders hope for policy shift from Trump on Ukraine
Russian Ambassador to Belgium, Alexander Tokovinin, has expressed growing discontent within European countries over the ongoing confrontation with Russia, as European leaders increasingly hope for a shift in policy under the incoming Trump administration.
Tokovinin noted that dissatisfaction is emerging at various levels of European society, driven by concerns that the escalating conflict, particularly involving NATO’s deeper involvement in Ukraine, could lead to dangerous consequences, including potential clashes between nuclear powers, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“Many in Europe are realizing the risks of continued confrontation with Russia,” Tokovinin said. “The situation is becoming more precarious as NATO becomes more entangled in the conflict, and there are growing fears that this could lead to catastrophic escalation.”
The ambassador highlighted that European leaders are now looking to the new US administration for a potential change in direction, especially regarding support for Ukraine. However, he cautioned that any shift would need to be measured by actions, not words, stating, “Everyone is waiting for some impulses from the new American administration, but we should judge not by words but by deeds.”
US President-elect Donald Trump recently indicated that under his leadership, Ukraine may receive less assistance from the United States compared to the current administration, led by President Joe Biden.
