Russian drone incursions reveal heightened European security risks Kirby warns
The White House has addressed the recent breaches of Romanian and Latvian airspace by Russian drones.
John Kirby, the National Security Council’s Strategic Communications Coordinator, underscored that these incidents highlight the broader threat posed by Russia.
According to the White House press office, Kirby emphasized that the incursions by Russian UAVs not only challenge NATO's borders but also reflect the wider implications of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine for European security, Caliber.Az reports.
He noted that such breaches, where missile or drone fragments land on neighbouring territories, are indicative of the ongoing risks.
"This is not an isolated event but a stark reminder of the increased danger Russia's war presents to the entire European continent," Kirby stated. He reiterated that the U.S. is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with allies to address these threats.
Kirby concluded by stressing the need for continued support to Ukraine, reinforcing that the security landscape in Europe has already shifted significantly due to the conflict.
