Russian, Egyptian FMs highlight need for Gaza ceasefire
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has discussed the situation in Syria with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty during the phone talk.
The two officials expressed strong support for Syria's sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports, citing the message posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website.
During the phone talk, the foreign ministers exchanged views on current Middle Eastern issues, with a focus on the ongoing events in Syria.
They also expressed support for the proactive role of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria Geir Pedersen in consolidating international efforts to support stabilisation and the establishment of civil peace in Syria.
The ministers reaffirmed their firm support for the preservation of Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
Lavrov and Abdelatty discussed the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. They emphasised the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the creation of conditions for a just resolution to the Palestinian issue based on widely recognised international legal principles.
The ministers also discussed prospective projects and spheres for further development of the Russian-Egyptian cooperation. They reaffirmed their mutual interest in maintaining a close political dialogue and expanding trade, economic, and humanitarian ties.
