Russian Embassy in Sweden targeted in new act of vandalism Issues diplomatic protest
The Russian Embassy in Stockholm was subjected to another act of vandalism early in the morning of April 15, as unknown individuals hurled containers filled with paint onto the premises of the diplomatic mission.
The containers were thrown onto the asphalt in front of the main entrance to the embassy’s official building and also in front of a residential complex located on embassy grounds, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The complex also houses a school affiliated with the Russian Embassy.
The embassy immediately informed the Swedish police about the incident and has submitted a formal note to the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The note demands that the Swedish authorities properly fulfill their obligations as the host country, in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, particularly regarding the inviolability and security of diplomatic premises.
“This is already the eleventh such episode in the past year,” the embassy said in a statement published on its official platform.
In the statement, the diplomatic mission emphasized the seriousness of the incident and reiterated its expectation that Swedish authorities will take effective measures to prevent further violations and ensure the safety of the Russian diplomatic presence in the country.
