Russian forces foil suicide attack on Syrian military base, three terrorists killed VIDEO
Russian forces successfully thwarted an attempted attack by four suicide terrorists on a military base in Syria on May 20 morning, neutralising three of the assailants during a fierce gunfight.
The attack took place near the city of Latakia, in close proximity to the Khmeimim Air Base, a key Russian military installation in the region, Caliber.Az reports via the Russian Telegram channel.
The assailants, identified as radical extremists, attempted to breach the base’s security perimeter. However, they were met with heavy return fire from Russian troops stationed at the base. In the ensuing clash, three of the attackers were killed. A fourth assailant initially retreated but was later targeted with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). The outcome of the RPG strike remains uncertain.
The identities of the attackers have been confirmed, with preliminary reports indicating that all four individuals were originally from Uzbekistan. Furthermore, sources suggest that the attackers did not recognise the legitimacy of the current Syrian government, aligning themselves with groups opposed to the regime.
