Russian top diplomat advocates for unified approach to Middle East conflict through UN

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution to the Middle East conflict through the framework of the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking at a press conference following talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, Lavrov expressed grave concern over the escalating situation in the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, calling for urgent international attention, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Lavrov highlighted that the ongoing crisis in these regions, as well as broader Middle East issues, requires resolution in accordance with UN Security Council decisions.

"The situation in the Palestinian territories, not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank, is very alarming," Lavrov stated. He underscored that the international community must uphold the UN Security Council's resolutions as the foundation for any peace process in the region.

Lavrov also drew attention to the broader regional challenges, stressing the importance of addressing the violation of Lebanese sovereignty and the ongoing conflict in Syria. He cautioned against external interference in Syria's internal processes, especially when it excludes key nations like Russia, Iran, and China, emphasizing that such efforts are counterproductive and could further divide the country rather than unify it.

"Attempts to provide external accompaniment to the processes taking place inside Syria without the participation of such important countries as Russia, Iran, and China hardly correspond to the task of uniting the nation," Lavrov remarked, referring to the divisions seen in Syria since the Arab Spring.
