Explosion at Iranian Port linked to hazardous materials warehouse Customs authority says
The explosion at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port likely occurred at a warehouse storing hazardous materials and chemicals, according to preliminary information.
“It is most likely that the explosion occurred at a warehouse storing hazardous materials and chemicals located within the port’s container terminal,” the Customs Authority of Bandar Abbas said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
On April 26, 2025, a powerful explosion rocked Shahid Rajaee Port near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. The blast, reportedly triggered by the detonation of hazardous materials stored in a container, injured over 400 people and caused the collapse of a port building. Emergency services swiftly responded, deploying ambulances, helicopters, and support units from nearby cities. Although no fatalities have been officially confirmed, the port’s operations were suspended as rescue efforts and an investigation got underway.
