Prosecutor general: Armenian Armed Forces record over 2,000 incidents in 2024 Figures
Armenia's Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan has revealed that 2,093 incidents were recorded within the Armenian Armed Forces and other military units so far in 2024.
Vardapetyan made these remarks during a parliamentary commission meeting, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
She highlighted a decrease in the number of incidents by 265, or 11.2 per cent, compared to the previous year, noting that 2,358 incidents were reported in 2023. The reduction signals some improvements in the armed forces' operational safety. Of the total incidents, Vardapetyan explained, 762 were classified as accidents (36.4 per cent), while the remaining 1,331 (63.6 per cent) were criminal cases.
Among the criminal cases, 715 incidents (53.7 per cent) were directly related to military personnel, while the other 616 cases (46.3 per cent) involved non-military crimes. Vardapetyan also addressed the number of casualties within the armed forces, stating that in 2024, 27 soldiers had died in the line of duty—an encouraging drop from the 54 fatalities reported in 2023.
