Russians stranded at Georgia border as snowstorm shuts crossing VIDEO
Dozens of Russian travellers have been stranded at the border with Georgia due to heavy snowfall and the risk of avalanches, with severe weather expected to persist for up to three more days.
The Upper Lars checkpoint and the Krestoviy mountain pass have been completely closed to both passenger and freight traffic, Caliber.Az reports, citing Telegram page SHOT.
The disruption has left dozens of tourists and residents unable to travel in either direction as snow conditions worsened.
The two crossing points have been shut for around nine hours.
Initially, travellers waited in traffic jams hoping for the border to reopen, but many later left for nearby hotels.
There is still no clear information on when the crossings will resume operations, though forecasters warn that adverse weather conditions could continue for several days.
