Rwandan ambassador labels 1994 genocide as "French Operation"
Charles Kayonga, the Ambassador of Rwanda in Ankara, made startling assertions regarding the Rwandan genocide of 1994, describing it as a "French operation."
Speaking to Report's Turkish bureau after commemorating the 30th anniversary of the genocide, Kayonga highlighted the atrocities committed against the Tutsi population, emphasizing the collective responsibility of politicians at the time.
Kayonga painted a grim picture of the genocide, recalling the indiscriminate killings of Tutsis, including men, women, children, and even unborn babies, in unimaginable ways. He lamented that despite the prevalence of free media and widespread social networks, the genocide has not received adequate attention, attributing this to denial campaigns led by the perpetrators.
Furthermore, the ambassador stressed Rwanda's commitment to human rights and peacebuilding efforts globally and regionally. He emphasized Rwanda's stance against genocide and all forms of crimes against humanity, advocating for peace, development, and the prevention of future atrocities.
