Slovakia rules out military aid to Ukraine
Slovakia has confirmed that it will not provide Ukraine with military assistance under a recent bilateral agreement.
Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák said the agreement, signed with Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal during his visit to Kyiv, would cover only non-military support, Caliber.az reports via foreign media.
Ukraine had requested five Božena demining vehicles, alongside engineering and construction equipment and medical evacuation resources.
Kaliňák stressed that the support would be provided free of charge but would not include weapons or ammunition.
“This agreement decisively excludes any weapons or military-type aid,” he told journalists.
Kaliňák also recalled that Slovakia ceased military assistance from state reserves following the arrival of Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government in autumn 2023.
He reiterated that this stance had not changed, noting that the demining vehicles and other equipment were intended solely to assist civilian populations.
