Slovakian PM sets conditions for Ukraine’s ‘brutal financial aid’
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, despite his pro-Russian stance, is willing to endorse substantial financial assistance for Ukraine, provided there are assurances that the funds will be used properly.
As reported by Euractiv, he seeks to allocate some of this aid for the improvement of border infrastructure and to support Slovak companies engaged in reconstruction efforts.
Fico is also prepared to contribute €400 million to the EU under the condition that the increased budget is dedicated to enhancing competitiveness and addressing illegal migration, without reducing cohesion funding. Speaking about the €50 billion budget injection for Ukraine, Fico emphasized the need for guarantees to prevent the misappropriation of European and Slovak funds in a country known for its high corruption levels.
The Council's conclusions additionally mentioned the EU's commitment to offering military aid, particularly through the European Peace Facility.
