South Korea to allocate $2.3bn to Ukraine
The Republic of Korea will allocate $2.3bn in aid to Ukraine in 2024.
Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul told a meeting of NATO foreign ministers and their partners, TASS reports.
"Minister Cho Tae-yul said that our country will continue to assist Ukraine for the sake of restoring peace and that a medium- and long-term package of $2.3bn will be allocated from this year," the South Korean foreign ministry said.
In addition, South Korea will allocate $12m through the NATO fund for the work of rehabilitation centers for wounded Ukrainian servicemen.
South Korea does not supply Kyiv with arms and ammunition but has provided it with humanitarian and financial aid.
Cho Tae-yul also repeated claims that the DPRK is supplying weapons to Russia in violation of UN resolutions and that this poses a threat to the Korean Peninsula. He said the potential transfer of Russian advanced technology and oil to Pyongyang, on the other hand, would threaten the non-proliferation regime.
The South Korean foreign minister criticized Russia for using its veto power at the UN, which failed to extend the mandate of the sanctions committee's panel of experts against the DPRK.
