Israel says IRGC naval commander killed in targeted strike
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, announced that Israeli forces carried out a targeted strike against senior Iranian military figures, including the commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Alireza Tangsiri.
Katz made the statement following a situation assessment held at the command centre in the Kirya with senior Israel Defence Forces (IDF) officials, according to Ynet News. He confirmed that, in addition to Tangsiri, other high-ranking individuals were also eliminated in the operation.
“The individual who was directly responsible for the terrorist operation involving the mining and blockade of the Strait of Hormuz for maritime traffic has been eliminated and neutralised,” Katz said. “This is a clear message to all leaders of Iran’s terrorist organisation — the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which currently controls Iran: the IDF will hunt you down and neutralise you one by one. I congratulate the IDF on the perfect execution of the mission.”
Katz emphasised that the development also carries significance for Washington. “This is also important news for our American partners,” he said, describing it as a reflection of the IDF’s role in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and of the “historic partnership” between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as between the two countries and their militaries.
