Sweden, Denmark to provide Ukraine with €246 million in air defence systems
Sweden and Denmark will jointly deliver a military aid package to Ukraine, including air defence systems valued at €246 million.
Sweden is contributing nearly €200 million for the purchase of Swedish Tridon Mk2 surface-to-air missile systems, which are particularly effective against drones, Caliber.Az reports via Swedish media.
“It can shoot down drones, cruise missiles, and even helicopters. This is a capability that Ukraine needs in light of the very intense Russian long-range strikes across the country now,” Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson said.
Denmark is also investing over €40 million in the program. The exact number of systems to be delivered has not been disclosed, but Swedish officials say it will meet the requirements of one air defence battalion.
Tridon Mk2 systems are already in production, with deliveries to Ukraine expected in the coming months.
Additionally, on February 1, it was reported that Sweden is preparing one of the largest military aid packages for Ukraine. Ukrainian officials also expressed hope that the plant producing Swedish Gripen fighter jets could be opened in Ukraine by 2033, with the first aircraft potentially arriving as early as 2026.
