Sweden records warmest March on record
March 2026 set a new temperature record across Sweden, according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI).
Temperatures in some areas exceeded the 1961–1990 average by up to 7°C, Caliber.Az reports via Swedish media.
Central Sweden, particularly the Norrland region stretching from the Norwegian border to the Gulf of Bothnia, experienced especially high readings.
Several northern stations also registered record highs, with areas above the Arctic Circle seeing above-zero temperatures for the first time in March since records began.
SMHI scientist Erik Kjellström described the widespread warmth as “significant and concerning.” The unusual heat is partly attributed to warming of the Atlantic Ocean linked to climate change.
