Sweden to provide over $137 million in aid to Ukraine
Sweden will allocate $137.7 million to support the reconstruction and development of Ukraine, as well as to address its urgent humanitarian needs.
Swedish Minister for International Development, Benjamin Dusa, announced the aid on March 13, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
According to Dusa, this marks Sweden’s largest ever civilian aid programme. The funds will be used for infrastructure rebuilding, mine clearance, and the training of healthcare workers.
Dusa further emphasised that supporting Ukraine is, in part, a matter of Sweden’s own security.
Moreover, the Swedish Government is set to authorise the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration to procure RBS 70 and Tridon Mk2 air defence systems for donation to Ukraine.
In collaboration with international partners, Sweden will also provide funding for the procurement of additional air defence systems for Ukraine.
Furthermore, on March 8, the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine announced that Sweden will allocate 22.5 million Swedish kronor (approximately $2.2 million) to support Ukrainian women.
The funding, according to the embassy’s post on X, aims to “empower women in Ukraine” and assist their roles in the country’s defence and recovery efforts.
“On March 8, we pay tribute to the Ukrainian women who are courageously defending their country, and all of Europe, as military and humanitarian workers, entrepreneurs, and political leaders,” the post stated.
The initiative will be carried out through UN Women, the embassy confirmed.
