Swedish fighter jets track Russian submarine in Kattegat PHOTO
Swedish fighter jets have tracked a Russian submarine in the Kattegat Strait, according to the Swedish Armed Forces.
“Swedish fighter jets tracking Russian submarine in the Kattegat. On Friday, Swedish JAS 39 Gripen intercepted a Russian Kilo-class submarine in the Kattegat. Together with allies, we are now monitoring the submarine’s continued route into the Baltic Sea,” the Armed Forces said in a post on X.
The military said Saab JAS 39 Gripen jets were deployed on Friday, 10 April, to identify and monitor the vessel, which was classified as a Kilo-class submarine under NATO designation.
It added that allied forces are involved in tracking the submarine’s continued movement into the Baltic Sea.
Officials described the operation as part of routine surveillance activity aimed at maintaining situational awareness and maritime security in the region. No further details were provided on the submarine’s mission or origin.
