Switzerland allocates additional funds for Ukrainian recovery and reconstruction
Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis has said that over the next four years, Switzerland plans to allocate 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) to Ukraine as part of its aid efforts.
Cassis made these remarks during a press conference in Geneva, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
However, the realisation of this plan will depend on several factors, including the situation on the battlefield and Switzerland's own financial status.
“Switzerland has already contributed approximately 500 million euros [$546 million] to support those affected by the war, and we will allocate an additional 1.5 billion euros for aid, development, recovery, and reconstruction from 2025 to 2028,” he stated.
Cassis also highlighted the Swiss government’s commitment to providing up to 5 billion euros ($5.5 billion) to Ukraine by 2036.
“This signifies a long-term engagement over the next 12 years, but it will, of course, depend on various factors—such as the situation on the battlefield and Switzerland’s financial condition,” he added.
Despite its neutral status, non-EU member Switzerland supports the EU's sanctions against Russia, which were implemented in response to its military operations in Ukraine.
In March 2022, the Russian government approved a list of foreign countries and territories that have taken unfriendly actions against Russia, its companies, and its citizens. Switzerland is included on this list.
