Switzerland ready to host third round of Ukraine talks

18 February 2026 19:18

Following the recent trilateral discussions in Geneva, the Swiss Foreign Ministry has expressed readiness to host a new round of negotiations on Ukraine.

“Switzerland supports any diplomatic initiatives aimed at establishing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” the ministry said in response to a TASS inquiry.

Swiss authorities added that they maintain contact with all relevant parties and continue to offer their mediation services.

The second round of talks between Russia, the US, and Ukraine took place in Geneva on February 17–18.

The first day of US‑mediated talks in Geneva ended on February 17 after about six hours of negotiations, yielding no concrete results.

Delegations from Ukraine, Russia and the United States held both political and military working group sessions, focusing on practical mechanisms for peace and security issues, with participants agreeing to continue talks the next day.

US envoy Steve Witkoff described the discussions as producing “meaningful progress” toward agreement mechanisms, even though neither side announced concrete results publicly.

On the second day, the negotiations wrapped up in Geneva after only about two hours, far shorter than the previous day, and concluded with no indication of major advances toward ending the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there was some progress on military issues and substantive discussion, but key political divides, especially over occupied territories, remain deep and without agreement.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators agreed to continue negotiations in the future, but neither side signalled that the talks produced a clear path to a ceasefire or peace deal.
