Syria’s Immigration and Passports Department reopens to serve public
The Immigration and Passports Department under the Ministry of the Interior of Syria's interim government, has officially reopened its doors to the public.
This development marks a significant step in restoring essential services amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the country, Caliber.Az reports per Syrian media.
The department has resumed its operations, and passport services have been reinstated. Individuals whose passports are currently in the printing stage will soon be able to receive their documents. This move aims to address the growing demand for travel documentation and streamline the process for citizens in need of passports.
The political and military landscape in Syria has shifted dramatically in recent weeks. On November 27, armed opposition groups launched a large-scale offensive against Syrian army positions in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. By December 7, these opposition forces had seized control of major cities such as Aleppo, Hama, Deraa, and Homs. By December 8, they entered Damascus, causing Syrian government forces to withdraw. This culminated in the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who fled the country.
On December 10, Mohammed al-Bashir, leader of the Salvation Government in Idlib, was appointed as the head of Syria’s new transitional government. This interim administration, formed in response to the collapse of the Assad government, is set to remain in power until March 2025.
