Syrian security forces dismantle ISIS-linked cell, launch raids in Aleppo
Syrian security forces announced the dismantling of a “terrorist cell” linked to ISIS in the northern countryside of Latakia Governorate following a security operation in the Al-Badrousiya area on November 24.
Brigadier General Abdul Aziz Hilal Al-Ahmad, head of internal security in Latakia, said the operation was carried out in coordination with the General Intelligence Service after authorities had monitored and closely tracked the movements of the cell, which was planning attacks targeting the security and stability of the Syrian coast, Caliber.Az reports via Syria.tv.
During the raid, an armed clash reportedly broke out as members of the cell attempted to resist arrest. All cell members were detained, and two were neutralised after refusing to surrender. Authorities also seized a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition. One member of the intelligence service was seriously injured during the operation and was transferred for medical treatment.
The Internal Security Command emphasized that efforts are ongoing to pursue anyone threatening public security and stressed that any attempt to support terrorist groups or undermine stability on the coast would be met with firmness.
In a related development, on November 25, the Internal Security Command in Aleppo Governorate launched a large-scale security campaign in the Afrin region, targeting ISIS-affiliated cells. A source in the Interior Ministry told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the operation, conducted in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, focused on dismantling hideouts of cells involved in hostile acts that threaten the stability of the province.
